Three consecutive Phil Andrews penalties put Larne 9-0 up against the Donegal outfit.

Ryan Garrett then landed the opening try of the afternoon, with Andrews adding the extras from a conversion.

Scott Montgomery’s converted try gave Laurence Kelly’s men a deserved 23-0 advantage at the interval, while Ian McIlheron’s second-half score meant the men in red can dare to dream of getting their hands on silverware at the home of Ulster Rugby.

That trip to Ravenhill comes on April 19 when they will face Qualifying League 3 stablemates Holywood.

Larne skipper James McCluggage knows they will have to work hard against the men from North Down.

“It was a superb team performance from 1 to 20 on Saturday,” McCluggage said. “It was extremely gutsy and determined by a young side who showed a great deal of maturity.

“However, we know we have plenty to work on before we take on Holywood in the final.

“A special thanks must also go the supporters who travelled with the team.

“The team would also like to encourage as many people to come out on Saturday for the team’s last home game of the season against Monaghan.”
