Larne Ladies face title clincher

LARNE Ladies Hockey Club are on the verge of league glory.

A comfortable 4-2 victory over third-placed Enniskillen at Greenland on Saturday means the First XI could clinch the ONE 1918 Senior 3 title this weekend.

Unbeaten Larne have scored 38 goals this campaign and conceded only eight to date.

Two goals from Laura Radcliffe and one each for Ruth Dalton and captain Gillian Russell saw off the Enniskillen challenge and on Saturday, and, if all goes according to plan, victory at Annadale (hit-off 1pm) should scupper the chances of second-placed Owls and secure the league title.

Coach James Dodsworth, in only his second year in the role, told the Larne Times he is optimistic of seeing his side step up to mark to claim the championship with a clutch of games to go.

“Three points on Saturday means we will have the league wrapped up,” he said.

“The players have been excellent all season and they have all worked very hard to get to where they are now. However, I’ve seen a few nerves setting in recent games so I hope we can get the win.”
