Larne runners battle through the heat at Milk Run road race

Six Larne Athletic Club members made the journey to Ballymoney on Friday for the annual Milk Run 5 mile road race. They battled blistering heat and a tough, inclining course to produce impressive performances.

James Brown was first home for Larne in 27.35, finishing fourth overall and winning his M35 category. Phelim McAllister ran 28.51, followed by Andy Gregg in 30.51, a time which secured a win in his M45 category.

Geraldine Quigley was first female home for the club and was fourth female overall in 34.02. Kellie Connor was next in 43.20 followed by Lyndsey Dillon in 47.03.

Also this week, club members took part in parkruns in Portrush, Carrick, Antrim, Comber and Larne. Brian Heron finished first in Carrick (18.55), with Angeline Davidson and Lisa McHenry running 30.06 and 37.15. At Portrush Erin Beattie and mum Irene both achieved personal best times of 26.10 and 30.41. Laura Simpson’s debut at Antrim saw her take second female in 24.33. Bobby and Emily Boal ran the Comber parkrun in 21.19 and 28.01 (pb) respectively.

At Larne, Martin Agnew clinched first in a time of 18.28. Nigel Kane was next home in 20.07, followed by Dale Smith in 21.32. John Kerr, Dan Magill and David Woods ran 22.35, 23.09 and 25.41. Other times: Laura Smith 25.55; Heather Baxter 26.07; Ashlynn Rodgers 27.09; Stephen McManus 27.51; Robin Alexander 27.54; Helen Kane 29.25; Kerry Inglis 33.09; Michael McCowan 36.46; and Davy Henderson 44.32.

Wayne Morrow finished strongly in fourth (2.06.24) at Saturday’s Browns Bay Beast.

Stephen Montgomery recorded a time of 2.27.59 to claim 29th, while Gabriel Rodgers took first relay in 2.10.11. Helen Murray helped get the competitors on the road on time.

At the 26 Extreme Woman’s Mini Marathon, Larne’s Rhonda Brady took seventh in 45:19, while Kirsten Montgomery was 90th in 56:36 (pb). Tracey Mann crossed the line in 173rd place, clocking 1:08:33 (pb).

Paula Wallace from Fit n Running accompanied the girls to the race and came 10th. Also a a big thanks to Ian McCluggage who supported the girls throughout the event.

Andy Gregg joined around 150 runners to take part in the Divis Mountain 10K on Sunday morning, a fundraising event for Action on Hearing Loss.

The race was held on gravel and stone paths reaching the top of Divis after two miles, before descending to follow the wooden boardwalk across to Black Mountain and spectacular views across Belfast.

Gregg finished 13th in a time of 43:18.
