Larne swimmers rack up 64 personal bests

Larne Leisure Centre hosted a Swim Ulster Development Gala on Saturday where Larne swimmers racked up 64 personal bests.

Ben Woodside (10) tok silver in the boys’ 100m individual medley, chopping 14 seconds off his pb. Luke Caldwell and Jack Wallace, both nine, also smashed their previous bests.

Amy McCullough achieved a qualifying meet time in the 200 freestyle, and Olivia Morrow and Enya Byrne took 45 seconds off their previous best.

Katie McGivern, Lucy McKnight, Holly Woodside, Anna Campbell and Niamh Connolly all recorded personal best times. Amy Campbell (11) won bronze medal in this event and also achieved a qualifying meet time. She then scooped an Ulster Age Group time and gold in the 400m freestyle.

Jack Magee, Conor Hamilton, Luke Caldwell and Ben Woodside all swam PB times in both the 100 and 200m breaststroke, with Jack scooping 100m bronze. Jason Apsley achieved a qualifying meet time in the 100 breaststroke.

In the 100m butterfly, Sienna Taggart won gold and achieved a qualifying meet time. Katie McGivern also achieved a PB, along with Enya Byrne, Eve Wilson, Olivia Morrow, Tara Woods and Meaghan Hamilton.

At Sunday’s Trojan Gala in Dublin Larne recorded 93 personal best times, won three silver medals, four bronze, two Division 1 times and eight Division 2 times for the Irish Championship Galas.

Erin and Amy Barr, won silver and bronze in the 50m breaststroke, and then reversed the medal scoop in the 100m freestyle. Erin also the won silver in the 100m breaststroke.

Adding to Larne’s 50m breaststroke medals, James Doherty gained a bronze in the 10-year-olds and then Anna Campbell scooped a well-deserved bronze in the 10-year-old 50 butterfly.
