Larne woman is Carrick Ladies’ captain

Carrick Ladies Hockey Club has announced that experienced midfield player Trish Neill will captain the First XI team for the coming season.

Trish has been with the club now for the past nine years, having joined from Larne in 2002. She has been a regular first team feature ever since her arrival, playing in a range of positions, mainly midfield and defence. She has even helped out in the team’s problematic centre forward position, delivering a vital trio of goals last season during her team’s successful campaign to retain Senior Two status.

Club president Peter Stevenson said: “Everyone is very happy with the selection committee’s decision to appoint Trish Neill as this season’s first team captain as we think she will do an excellent job in leading the team.

“Trish still lives in Larne, having moved to us way back in 2002 and over the years she’s become even more fiercely loyal to Carrick Ladies than many of our home-bred players.”

Trish, who helped Carrick to four league promotions in her first five years with the club, will captain a team featuring an exciting new batch of players. She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been selected to lead this season’s Carrick Ladies’ first team and I really hope I can do justice to the role.

“There’s a lot to be done to move forward from last season’s problems but I think we already have the makings of a really good squad and everyone has been working extremely hard during pre-season training.”
