Last chance for NFU Mutual 5 Mile Road Race

THIS is the last call for all social runners and fun runners for this Friday night's NFU MUTUAL 5 Mile Road Race at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

The 5 mile road race begins at 7pm with whopping 12 individual categories incorporated into the main race this year.

"This year promises to be the best event yet with categories for everyone and prizes the whole way down the field, so there is no excuse not to turn up and give it a go" commented Community Sports Officer John Fall.

The full list of categories are as follows, open male and female, veterans section for males at over 40, over 50 and over 60, veterans sections for females for over 35, over 40 and over 50, junior race for male and female and wheelchair race for male and females.

The race has attracted great numbers in past years with 175 finishers in 2009 and this year should be no different with enquiries already received from all over the province.

Prior to the main event, the children's 1km/1.5km fun runs will take place at 6.15pm again at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre. The races will take place in the grounds of the centre and is open to anyone aged 8-14.

Please note that entry costs 3.00 per child and NO entries will be accepted without a Parental/Guardian consent form being completed.

"This is the fifth year of the children's event and I would encourage all children from the Borough to come along and take part. Every child will receive a medal for competing" commented John Fall.

"Parents must remember that consent forms are compulsory and must be signed on the night or prior. No form, no run, with no exceptions at all."

The main race is sponsored this year by NFU Mutual along with Springwell Running Club who co-ordinate the event in partnership with the Ballymoney Borough Councils Sports Development Unit.

The evening's activities kick off from 6.15pm and everyone is welcome to attend and support the runners. The Mayor Cllr Bill Kennedy will start the race at 7pm form the Garryduff Road. The first finishers will be expected back inside 25 minutes to have a chance at the course record. Spectators will be entertained by local DJ Benny Knight during this time.
