Last chance to vote for unsung sporting heroes

THE Hughes Insurance Sports Volunteer Awards, the new programme to recognise and reward Northern Ireland’s unsung sporting heroes, is calling for the people of Lisburn to get voting for sports volunteers in their area before the entry deadline on June 3.

The awards are open to volunteers from all sports and are running province-wide, focused through 12 branches of Hughes Insurance. Each location will have a winner when voting closes and the decisions are made by a sporting judging panel in the summer.

Andrew Oliver, Branch Manager at Hughes Insurance Lisburn said: “There is some fantastic work being done by sports volunteers in our community so we are encouraging everyone in Lisburn to visit the branch or go online to our website to cast their vote. We want to give volunteers in our area the recognition they deserve.”

One such nominee is Michael Bowden who has been nominated for his work with Lisnagarvey Hockey Club. Michael has been the Men’s Club Secretary for over 28 years, dedicating a lot of his time to organising fixtures for the teams.

Each Hughes Insurance branch winner will win a trophy, £200 for themselves plus £500 for the team, club or group. All 12 will then go forward to the Northern Ireland finals and the chance to win the overall Sports Volunteer title. To nominate a volunteer from your community visit your local Hughes Insurance branch for an entry form or visit www.HughesSportsVolunteers.com. The deadline for nominations is June 3.
