LAST GASP GOAL DENIES UNITED

The draw followed Tuesday’s defeat to Chimney Corner leaving United with one point from their first three games in Championship Two.

Boss Joe McCall (right) told Times Sport he felt his team deserved much more out of the opening games.

“Wakehurst scored with the last kick of the ball, we didn’t even get centring it,” he said.

“We were totally in control of the game, peppered their goal the whole game, couple of one on ones, we hit the bar and should have won the game comfortably.

“We finally scored with about 10 minutes to go through Ian Christie.

“We conceded a bad goal. They put a free kick into the box, we half cleared it and from an attempted cross the ball went straight into the net.

“Tuesday night was exactly the same, I think our goalkeeper second half had one shot to deal with.

“We made a mistake and it was one nil.

“I don’t think we played particularly well Tuesday night although we made a lot of chances.

“On Saturday we totally controlled the game, played well, good energy, good enthusiasm, good quality, just that cutting edge wasn’t there.

“And unfortunately now Randal Reid is carrying an injury.

“But at the end of the day we got a point on a 3G pitch which isn’t what you play football on, it’s not what the game was designed for but we’ve got a point so we are off the mark in that sense.

“For 95 or 96 percent of the game we were happy with how we played and we looked solid and looked strong and then a simple mistake is made and you are punished for it and that seems to be the way it is at the minute.

“It’s just something we have to deal with and we’ll just get on with it.”

Ballymoney welcome Immaculata to the Riada Stadium on Thursday evening (kick-off 7.45pm) in the Steel and Sons Cup.

“We are now preparing for that game and hopefully we will get a win and get things going,” said McCall.
