Last-gasp win for Dromore Seconds

A last gasp kick from TJ Morris was enough to steal an 18-17 victory for Dromore 2nd XV against a useful Ards team.

Dromore had the first opportunity to get points on the board after Ards were penalised at the break down. Morris’ attempt was successful and put Dromore into the lead with 5 minutes played.

It was the visitors turn to control the possession and territory but unforced errors stopped them in their tracks.

After the referee warning the Ards captain about back chat and penalising them 10 yards, the Out Half was sent to the bin. Dromore couldn’t make use of the excellent platform given after the penalty and were pinged for not releasing allowing the visitors to clear.

Ards took the lead courtesy of quick thinking from the scrum half when his quick tap penalty caught Dromore off guard.

The conversion attempt was unsuccessful but gave Ards a 5-3 lead.

After returning to the full complement, the visitors piled on the pressure and another converted try saw the score move out to 12-3.

At half time, Dromore 2s had plenty to work on if they were going to overturn the deficit.

The second half commenced and an excellent kick from Ards pinned Dromore back on their own line.

The home side failed to gather the ball and Ards gained possession and scored in the corner.

The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, and the score remained 17-3 to the hosts.

Despite the score, Dromore were encamped in the Ards 22, and were once again a man advantage after a challenge with no arms.

The conversion was unsuccessful but narrowed the score to 9 points.

After the Dromore score Ards piled on the pressure and looked to be making headway to their fourth try, however excellent defence from James Milligan resulted in a turnover.

A penalty inside the opposition allowed TJ Morris to add another 3 points to the Dromore score. 17-11 to the visitors with 5 minutes left.

In the dying seconds of the game, a lovely switch line from Philly Lunn off out half, Scott Nelson, resulted in the centre crashing over the line and giving Morris a kick to win the match.

Morris coolly slotted and gave Dromore a well fought win. 18-17 final score.
