Lastest results from Ballycastle Golf Club

TEAMS A and H were the joint top scorers in week three of the P.J. McIlroy & Son sponsored Winter League at Ballycastle Golf Club. The scores counting in team A this week came from Declan McCarry (35pts), Gerry Norwood (34pts), Billy Rooney (33pts), John McAuley (33pts) and Francis McGinn (31pts).

In team H, George McVeigh (35pts), Eamon McIlroy (35pts), Jonathan McBride (32pts), Paul Scott (32pts) and Michael Close (32pts) all counted this week and their performance has helped move team H into a share of the overall lead alongside team E on 33 points.

Third place in the league is currently held by team L on 31 points with a bit of a gap to teams A and K in fourth and fifth on 22 points.

In Saturday’s stableford competition, Mark McCormick completed his sixteen holes in three under par gross for a total of 37 points and first place in section one. Eamon McIlroy finished in second place and George McVeigh in third with scores of 35 points apiece.

Hugh Sayers deserves an honourable mention for his sporting behaviour on Saturday. Hugh had returned a score of 37 points in the morning, but, when analysing his round later in the day, realised he had inadvertently breached a rule of golf at the 15th hole and contacted the club to disqualify himself from the competition.

In the section two competition on Saturday, Liam McLean took first place with a score of 35 points, Gerry Norwood was second with 34 points and Leonard McCormick third also with a score of 34 points.

Shay Paul Duffin was the winner of Sunday’s section one competition with a score of 37 points and Colm Hendrie took the runners-up spot with a total of 35 points.

In section two, Liam McGonigle was the winner with an excellent score of 38 points, a highlight undoubtedly being the remarkable eagle two Liam made at the 11th hole!

Second place in the section two competition went to Aiden Higgins with 36 points and this score brings Aiden level with Chris Kelly in the overall individual Winter League standings on a total of 105 points after three weeks.

Ballycastle Golf Club is running an Open stableford competition on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Visitors are welcome and for the price of 15 they can play in the competition and receive a bowl of Irish stew and pint of Guinness in the clubhouse afterwards. Members can play in the competition for the usual entry fee or they can avail of the ‘stew and pint’ offer by paying 9. The online timesheet for Wednesday 17 March is currently available for reserving tee-times.
