Sunnyside U12s 1 Shankill 2

SUNNYSIDE U12s were beaten 2-1 by Shankill at Wallace on Saturday morning. Sunnyside got off to the better start and the early pressure saw them create two chances, in the first James Mc Alinden shot at the keeper from a tight angle and in the second Emmett Farren was ready to shoot but for a great last minute tackle by a Shankill defender.

Then on 15 minutes despite this good start Sunnyside handed Shankill the lead by giving away a soft penalty, for the remainder of the half Shankill started to get back into it and Sunnyside struggled to have any possession.

Stand-in goal keeper Ryan Conway made a good save to keep the score 1-0. Just before the interval Sunnyside equalised when Patrick Mc Partland got a touch onto a free kick to flick the ball over the keeper.

The second half saw both sides have their chances, Sunnyside's main threat came from Shayne Lavery, Shankill did not know how to cope with his speed and he crossed in twice to set up chances, in the first Farren had the first shot and then it rebounded to McPartland who steered it narrowly wide, the second cross was even more dangerous but Michael Lavery just could not get the contact needed to bundle the ball over the line.

A draw would have been a fair result but with five minutes to go Shankill grabbed a winner.

They play Lisburn Youth in Moira this Saturday at 9.30am and Lisburn Wanders in Aghalee the following Saturday at 11:15am.
