Late winner for Youth

Lisburn Youth U15s won a nail-biting match 3-2 against Shankill last weekend.

With both teams still harbouring hopes of winning the league title, it was always going to be a close game. And so it proved, with lisburn eventually running out 3-2 winners. Lisburn started the game with great determination and got themselves ahead after a fine free-kick from captain james thompson was headed into the net by ben curran. 1-0 half-time. The second half was also nip and tuck but when Nathan McShane scored to double Lisburn’s lead and the game looked over.

To their credit, the plucky Shankill kept plugging away and deservedly pulled a goal back with five minutes to go. This drove them on to try and get the equaliser that would earn them a draw from the clutches of defeat.

And they duly obliged with two minutes to go, sparking wild celebrations on the sidelines, in their dugout. Surely they had snatched a point that had just minutes earlier looked so unlikely as Lisburn dominated.

However, it wasn’t quite so clear-cut as the spirited Lisburn team weren’t affected by the crushing set-back. They went straight up the pitch and earned a corner-kick.

It was last chance sallon for Youth to get the victory they had deserved. And they got it as McShane forced home the winner.

What a match and what a finish.
