Leaders Vintage grind out result over Clans

The Vintage Bar remain top after they made it five wins out of five, but they did not get it easy as they had to grind out a 5-3 victory over Clann Eireann.

Brian McCavigan won the first match with a 2-0 win over Johnny McAtamney hitting 3x100’s. Dee Blaney got his fourth win out of five with a 2-0 win over Kevin O’Loan. Neil McCloskey pulled one back for Clann Eireann with a 2-1 win over Mo Campbell before Keith Beale scored heavily hitting numerous tons plus a 140 on way to a 2-1 win over Joe McCabe. John Cinnamond got his fifth win of the season beating Michael Scullion 2-1 which included a 17 darter and James Bolton wrapped up the win beating Ciaran Magee with 4x100’s and a 21 dart leg. Mark Magee got the better of Oliver Toland by 2 legs to 1 hitting a 140 and Nathan McCabe hit a 180 and 2x100’s as he beat Conor Mallon 2-0.

The Trojans stopped the run of four consecutive 7-1 defeats but were still beaten as Celtic won 6-2. Sean Farren got his third win of season winning 2-0 against Gordy Walker with Sean hitting a 140 and 2x100’s. Davy Vaughan Jr impressed yet again this time getting the win when he beat Adrian Hutchinson 2-1 with Davy hitting the bull for a super 121 checkout in the first leg to level the match. Shea Rutherford then put the Trojans in front when he had a 2-1 win over Gerard Crewe but it was the visitors who took over from here winning the last five matches dropping just one more leg. Firstly Micky Cahoon played his first match of the season and beat Paul Lewis 2-0 before Dessie Dunbar put Celtic in front winning 2-0 and hitting 4x100’s against Tony Rutherford. Martin Haddock had a 125 and 2x100’s as he beat Stuart Matchett 2-0.

Dee Breen secured the win with a 2-1 win over Rab Lewis with Dee hitting a 177 and 140 on the way and another 140 by Andy McConnon was enough for him to beat Andy Fairbairn 2-0 and leave Celtic club in second a point ahead of both the INF and the Stables.

Both the INF and the Eire Og teams started this match knowing a defeat could be critical in staying in touch with the leaders and it was the Forresters who came out in top despite only having seven men.

A 177 and 21 darts was enough for Marty Murray to give him victory over Micky Dunwoodie (140, 4x100’s) by 2 legs to 1 in the first match of the night to give the home team the lead before Sam Frazer (140, 4x100’s) recorded his fifth consecutive 2-0 win of the season when he beat Vincey Culbert (140,100). Dermy McStay won the first leg against Paddy Magill before Paddy fought back winning the next two in 20 and 22 darts with a 180 thrown in to put the Forresters back in front.

Seamy Tallon matched Sam’s perfect league record when he also got his fifth consecutive 2-0 win of the season this time over Paul Callaghan in 28 and 22 darts. Marty Crossan and Chris Cinnamond played out three great legs with Chris winning the first in 25 darts before Marty responded winning the last two in 22 and 20 to give the INF at least a point and a 4-1 lead on the night. An opening leg of 17 darts by Micky Campbell put him on his way to a 2-1 win over Lee Culbert and with Hugh Heaney getting a walkover win it brought it to the last match with the score 4-3. Mark McLernon hit 3 x100+ scores to comfortably take the first leg against Terry Morrow in 18 darts. Both players scored well in the next leg but it was Terry who hit double 15 to bring it to a deciding leg. Both scored well with Mark hitting his sixth and seventh 100+ score in the tie but back to back 140’s was enough to help Terry take out 80 on double top for a 15 dart leg and the win and give the INF the points and move them up to third in the table.

The Stables made it four matches unbeaten when they held reigning champions Drumgor to a draw.

Clive Hanna dropped his first leg of the season but still got the win as he had a 16 dart leg on way to a 2-1 win over Michael Lamb who won his leg in 18 darts. Chris Lewsley levelled the match with a 2-1 win over Pearse Richardson. Marty Craig and Dee McConville went right to the wire in the deciding leg with Marty finally hitting the all important winning double after Dee had missed chances to win. It was soon level again as Peter Morris beat Paul Donnelly 2-0 before Shane Lennon had 2x140’s and 3x100’s and a 16 dart leg to help him beat Aaron Furphy 2-0 to put Drumgor 3-2 up on the night. Pat Curran had more success on his favourite 19’s as he beat George Chambers 2-1 to again level the tie but a 2-0 win for Eamon Duff over the previously unbeaten Shane Tallon put the visitors back in front. It was Hugh Campbell who beat Joe Duff 2-0 to leave both teams agreeing a draw was a fair result.
