League leaders see off Fourths

LEAGUE champions North Down beat the Fourths comprehensively this past Saturday in the early game at Comber Leisure Centre.

The match got off to a fairly even start before two long aerial clearances by the North defence ended up being converted for a surprising 2-0 lead.

This got worse a few minutes later when another long clearance bounced off a Garvey stick and fell kindly for a North Down forward to convert again leaving Garvey reeling at 3-0.

Half time was reached without any further calamities and Garvey knew that they need to score the next goal to get back into the game. It wasn’t to be and North Down seemed to have the knack of catching the Garvey defence short-handed to score their fourth and effectively kill off the game.

Garvey got one back through Andy Brown with a well taken reverse but it was merely consolation on what was a tough day for the Fourths.

North still managed to break the Garvey defensive line with ease and the match ended with the Fourths clearly second best and a final 6-1 score line.

A disappointing result but the Fourths are still likely to finish much higher in the league - no worse than fourth - after what has otherwise been a fine campaign.
