Learning curve for Seven Towers girls

THERE were mixed results for Seven Towers U14 Netball team at the weekend when they competed in an under-14 tournament at Lisburn Racquets Club recently.

The opposing teams came from all areas of Northern Ireland, providing the Towers girls with a varied level of opposition.

Seven Towers got off to a great start with Wing Attack Terry Gillen quickly losing her opponent and delivering the ball into the circle where Niamh McNally (Goal Attack) and Aleysha Loughran (Goal Shoot) made great use of Terry’s accurate passes turning the opportunities into scores, earning the team a respectable win against Kingsway.

The success continued as Captain Niamh Laverty, held a tight defence with Centre Rosie Finlay and Wing Defence Ashlinn Killough, working the ball quickly up the court and the girls continued their unbeaten streak by drawing with Laganside and Banbridge.

As the day neared a close, Belfast Ladies, Holywood I, Holywood II and Dromore unfortunately proved too strong for the relatively inexperienced but enthusiastic Seven Towers side.

This is the first time Seven Towers Netball Club has entered their junior members into any competition. Overall the girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to playing more matches.

This season’s coaches Amy Scullion and Debbie Sayers are delighted with the girls’ progress and urge the schools in the area to encourage their players to attend the club.

Training takes place every Tuesday night at St Patrick’s College, Broughshane Road, Ballymena from 6-7pm.

Amy and Debbie are now set on preparing the U16 Seven Towers Netball team for their tournament which will be played on Sunday, February 21.
