Lennon guides Celtic to title

The Glasgow Celtic manager said it was the “best day” of his career after leading his team to a 43rd league championship courtesy of a 6-0 win at Kilmarnock.

Lennon, who won the title with Celtic as a captain, could not hide his joy when the final whistle went.

“It’s the best day of my professional life,” he told ESPN. “It’s been a long time coming.”

And Lurgan Celtic Club had a massive celebration when the final whistle went. Loud cheers and lots of clinking of glasses were followed by some fans creating an impromptu conga line from the club and round the church.

The Hoops clinched the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title in fine style on Saturday by crushing Kilmarnock by 6-0 at Rugby Park.

Celtic can now look forward to next week’s William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts at Hampden and on this form, Neil Lennon’s side must be favourites for the double.

Lennon was given a hero’s reception by the Celtic fans after the game.
