Leon rescues Lifeboat Spoons title at Rathmore

DUE to another event on the Valley Links, Rathmore Golf Club's Lifeboat Spoons Stableford competition was held on the Dunluce Course on Sunday.

Low handicappers took the honours with countback being employed to confirm Leon Stevenson as the winner with 39 points. Leon plays off 4 and had bogeys at six holes balanced by an eagle at the ninth and a birdie at 10.

Lowell Bradley (6) ran Leon close but an unfortunate triple bogey at the third coupled with a double at the sixteenth didn’t help when countback was used. Even with his birdies at 2, 7, 9, 10, and 15 he was edged into runners-up spot.

Harry Moon (6) also had his troubles with a blank at the eighth couples with a string of bogeys on the back nine. He still returned 36 points but will be disappointed not to have bettered this.

Best gross of the day went to Rory Houston for this 73. Three birdies and an eagle at the third were the highlights of Rory’s round.

The second hole in one on the Dunluce course over the weekend was recorded by greenkeeper John Hutchinson at the third. Suggestions of insider dealings were brazenly swept aside by John as he claimed his rewards later!
