Linfield battling on three fronts

VICTORY over St. Pat's on Saturday evening in the Setanta Cup will keep Linfield battling on three fronts.

It's a winner take all clash with a semi-final slot up for grabs and manager David Jeffrey is keen to continue what could become a fixture headache.

"I know at times we complain about too many games, but when you are progressing in competitions it is a great headache to have," said Jeffrey.

"Things are looking good at the present after a great Irish Cup win at The Oval and managing to extend our lead at the top of the table. We very much want to progress in the Setanta Cup but we will need to use the squad to its full potential to do that. It is not a case of playing a weakened team - we have injuries and suspensions to deal with. I have always said it is squads that win championships and trophies.

"It is not that long ago we had taken just one point from 12 in the league and there was pressure on my position as manager. While things have improved we still have not won anything and at the end of the season I and the team will be judged on what silverware is in the cabinet. I am really pleased the way the team has dealt with the pressure because we only have a few old hands around who have seen it all before and know how to handle with it.

"After Saturday we have another huge game at Cliftonville so they are coming thick and fast."

The Setanta game kicks off at 5.15pm.
