Linton wins Spring 10 Mile Time Trial

BALLYMONEY CC “Biesty’s Centra” racing team rider Mervyn Linton won the “Spring 10 mile time trial” on the Ballybogey line in an outstanding time of 22.21, averaging 27 mph for the distance.

Mervyn won the race out of 18 starters from teammate Steven McAllister 22.41. Steven was runner up to his boyhood hero John Madden at the Bann Wheelers-promoted 10 TT in a time 22.33.

Flying junior rider Stuart Laverty set a personal best time of 22.53 and secured 3rd place from David Strang 22.56.

Fast improving rider Damien Reynolds from Dunloy CC had a very respectable time for his first attempt at the distance of 27.19 and again the tough and determined under 12 rider Shay Donley who is working closely with the BCC team to get more involved at open road racing and take on the rest of the U12 riders here in Ireland. Shay did a first ever 10TT time for and U12 of 28.18.

Shay will probably get a first run out at Dromara CC’s Road races in early June. The south of Ireland have youth racing every week and this is something that BCC “Biesty’s CENTRA” racing team will be addressing.

Another Personal Best time was turned in by flying motocross schoolboy champion Jordan McCaw in 24.59, Jordan who this weekend has travelled

to Wexford to compete in a national motocross event but is back and ready for action in the 1st round of the six club inter club league at Spires on Thursday night.

With the Tour of Ulster being held this holiday weekend and promoted by Carn Wheelers, the local races take a break as this International event winds its way around the country.

BCC top schoolboy Ryan Orr has travelled to the Kanturk 2 Day Youth stage race in Co. Cork, this racing weekend is part of the European Youth Olympic trials with Ryan firmly establishing himself as a serious contender.

With only sketchy details it appears that Ryan had a fantastic 2nd overall from local favourite Michael O’Laughlin, Carrick Cidona wheelers.

On Tuesday night the Cycling Ulster Team Time Trial championships are being held at Woodgreen on the Ballymena/Antrim line.

This is a specialist event over 25 miles and the BCC “Biesty’s Centra” riders have been entered for it. Each team is made up of four riders and the final time is taken on the 3rd placed rider to cross the line. The team for Tuesday night is Uel Cunningham, Steven McAllister, Stuart Laverty and Mervyn Linton.

On Thursday at the Loup, BCC are sending a ten man team to take part in the highly competitive round one of the 6 club Interclub league.

Riders for this race are William Loughridge, Ronan Sherman, Stuart Laverty, Steven McAllister, Uel Cunningham, Mervyn Linton, Jordan McCaw, Tony Blaney, Ryan Orr, Neville Patton.

There is also a local event held between Ballymoney Cycling Club and the newly formed Dunloy CC called the “Spring Classic” road race. This year Dunloy have taken it on to run themselves and Ballymoney CC will be again going along to show their support.
