Lions roar into All-Ireland final

Lurgan Lions recently took to the field at Malone RFC to play in the Summer Tag Rugby league.

This is the third year the team have played at Malone and managed an impressive sixth place finish, enough to secure a place in the All-Ireland Tag Rugby Championships.

The Lions came up against some very tough opponents at the start of the season, including teams with players representing Ulster and Ireland in both men and women. The team gelled together and after a few defeats, their determination gave them some fantastic results in the latter half of the season, most notably, their 41-16 win against BT9 Broncos in the final game. The Lions thank everyone who made the journey to Malone RFC to support them and of course to Malone RFC and the IRFU for their hard work to make it all possible.

This year also gave the Lions the chance to step out in style as with their very own kit. Thanks to Kit Ireland for designing and producing the kit at a special rate, and to Moorefield Management Consultancy as the major sponsor. Thanks also to mynewhome.ie, Wickie Construction and JD Physio for their sponsorship – the team very much appreciate it.

A huge thanks must also go to those who attended the ‘Lions Breakfast’, helping raise the money required to play IRFU Tag Rugby.

A bus will be going from Lurgan RFC on August 10th to Suttonians RFC for those wishing to support the Lions in the All Ireland Championships, and as always it promises to be a fantastic day out.

Team: Jane Dawson (captain), Andrea Black, Louise Currie, Joanne Heasley, Jenny Harvey, Rose Montgomery, Stephen Nolan, Chris Wamsley, Dylan Gill, Josh Greer, Jamie Clarke, Ben McIlwaine, Mark McIlwaine, Matthew McCormick.
