Lisburn aim to narrow gap at Shaw’s Bridge

This Saturday, the Lisburn squad has the chance to narrow the gap with first, Instonians when they travel to Shaw’s Bridge for a 1-00 p.m. start. A win there would take Garvey back into the hunt for the league title still with the outstanding game against Banbridge to play, probably in March.

First a win over Instonians is imperative and Garvey will unfortunately be without captain Jonny Bell who is involved in an Ireland training session and Johnny Quigley who is still on the injured list.

The Irish session also involves Instonians’ key player, Paul Gleghorne so there will be little between the sides and once again the penalty corner count could well provide the decisive issue and with Timmy Cockram, Garvey have a ‘trump card’. However, Garvey, as a team, will have to raise their game for another vital encounter and have to improve their performance if they are to keep in touch with the main Premier League contestants, Banbridge and Instonians.

Garvey Seconds also have a very important game at the weekend; they travel to Monkstown to play their second round Irish Junior Cup tie and will have to be at their best if they are to gain a place in the quarter final stage of the competition. Captain Paul Fleming is confident of a successful day as his team have been recording some very good results over the past few weeks. It is a number of seasons since Garvey Seconds have contested the premier trophy in Junior hockey and there would be no better place to stake a claim than at Monkstown on Saturday especially against one of the best Junior teams in the Leinster league.
