Lismore celebrate historic win

The Lismore Comprehensive School under 14 gaelic squad rounded off a great season with victory in the Ennis Cup final against Lumen Christi Derry last week.

This was a great occasion for the school, and the final played at Dean McGlinchey Park in Ballinascreen saw the school record its first ever Ulster Colleges title.

The boys began the season in good style winning their group and progressing to a quarter final tie against Coláiste Feirste. Victory here saw the squad face St. Josephs, Newry in the semi–final in Armagh.

Despite trailing going into the final minutes the boys got the vital scores and claimed a place in the final.

Lismore began the final playing against a strong breeze and were under huge pressure during the first half. However two goals from Oisín McConville and one from Ciaran McGeown from breakaways kept Lumen’s lead to five points at half time.

Within six minutes of the second half Lismore had wiped out the deficit with a second goal from Ciaran McGeown as well as points from Leo Monteiro, Cathal McGinty and Josh Megoran. Although Lumen Christi tried hard to get back into the game, Lismore’s defence had got to grips with Lumen Christi’s danger men, restricting the Derry side to a couple of points. Fionnbhar Hamill notched two points followed by a penalty from Leo Monteiro. Fionnbhar Hamill got a goal ten minutes from time and Ciaran McGeown completed his hat-trick to seal the win.
