Lisnagarvey crowned the Premier League Champions

Lisngarvey have finally smashed their way over the finish line to claim the Ulster Premier League title for the 37th time.

As if it had been in any doubt over the last few weeks, they claimed the crown for only the second time in 12 years, edging past Banbridge on goal difference.

They bagged a routine 7-0 victory in the final game of the season in Raphoe to ensure the trophy is coming back to Comber Road, notching up their 100th goal of the campaign along the way.

They finished 10 goals clear of rivals Banbridge with a goal difference of +82, both teams on 49 points having won 16 games, drawn one and lost only one.

Although it was a simple and predictable victory in the end on Tuesday night, it took them 22 minutes to get on their way. It was certainly a nervy start until Timmy Cockram opened the scoring with a penalty stroke. How fitting it was that the man who has over 50 goals this season should get them underway on the night that they claimed the title.

Having finally got on their way against the basement side, there was only ever going to be one winner and by half-time, it was game, set and match. Jason Lynch bagged a quickfire double before the break to seal the league win and from then on it was merely a procession of Garvey’s talent and attacking ability.

No sooner had the second half begun than they added another. This time it was James Lorimer who got in on the act, converting a penalty corner.

Andy Williamson made it 5-0 and then it was Greg Thompson who saw Garvey into three figures in their goals for column for the season.

Daneil Buser also got in on the act, completing the scoring on what was a historic night for the club.

It capped off what had been a fantastic week for the Comber Road side, who have the chance to go through to the IHL semi-finals on Saturday before they are presented with the Ulster Premier League trophy after the crunch Pool A game against Cookstown.
