Lisnagarvey did it for Davy

The Lisnagarvey rink who won the NIBA Fours title at the Championships say they did it for Davy Walker!

John McCloughlin, Gareth McCloughlin, Ivan Craig and Neil Mulholland set out to win the title and the fact they were playing for Davy Walker was a big inspiration.

Davy, who died recently after a long fight with cancer was a big figure at the club, who was always ready to go “the extra mile’’ for anyone who needed help.

There was a huge attendance at his recent funeral, which underlined the respect accorded to a gentleman.

Garvey’s winning skip, Neil Mulholland, said Davy took him on several occasions to tournaments and he was a real friend.

“We all decided the title win should be for Davy,” he said.

A few facts about the men on the rink. John McCloughlin and Neil Mulholland won the same title together in the past.

Ivan Craig has not won at the championships since the Eighties, though he dropped out of the game for around 20 years and this win was a first for Gareth McCloughlin.
