Lisnagarvey ready to get back to action with Senior Cup quarter final

They have not played a competitive game since December 19th but have kept involved in the Cookstown tournament over the past two weeks.

This was completed on Saturday when Garvey defeated Cookstown by 3 goals to nil at Coolnafranky.

Three goals from Daniel Buser gave his team a convincing 3-0 win and sets them up for the vital cup match at the weekend.

Garvey played Railway Union in that game on 19th December in the I.H.L. and were very fortunate to come away with a 3-2 victory; a win which was to leave them at the top of the I.H.L. league at the half way stage of the programme.

The Irish Cup match also at Park Avenue will be another difficult match for Garvey especially as no less than five of their squad are returning from the Ireland trip to South Africa on the Thursday before the match and will no doubt be extremely tired after their three week schedule.

Garvey captain Jonny Bell plus Paul Gleghorne, Neil Glassey, Michael Watt and Timmy Cockram will have to raise themselves quickly if a place in the semi-final is to be achieved.

The game back in December saw Garvey very well placed leading by two early goals before the stubborn Railway Union team struck back to 2-2 and it took a last second penalty corner from Timmy Cockram to give Garvey a memorable win.

They have been well warned about the ability of the home side and again they need to start at a fast pace and maintain their discipline at the back when Railway come at them.

The game promises to be a tight encounter with probably a single goal separating the two well matched teams.
