Formed in January, Causeway Cycle club now boasts over 90 members, drawn from all ages and abilities. Members have recently competed in some of the toughest sportive events on the island including the Belfast/Dublin Maracycle, The Inishowen 100, the Sperrin Challenge and the fearsome Giant Killer Sportive that finished atop Torr Head. But club Chairman Robert Downes was keen to stress that while these longer events are great targets for some of the more experienced members the ethos of the club has not changed from its focus on leisure cycling. Robert told Times Sport: “None of us can believe how successful the club has been in our first year. We created a club with the express purpose of being for everyone who wanted to get out on their bike and may not have been willing to join a more traditional cycling club.

“While some of our members have progressed rapidly the focus is still very much on being an inclusive leisure club with a real sense of shared ownership. Our Sunday runs have something for absolutely everyone and new faces are always made to feel welcome. So I would invite anyone to come along and enjoy the fun, fresh air and friendly faces.”

The club really do have something for everyone with the new mountain bike runs on a Tuesday and Thursday (leaving Costa, Coleraine at 6pm) proving very popular.

These, coupled with the long standing weekend runs (leaving Costa at 9am, 9:30am after the clocks change), ensure that all ages, abilities and disciplines of cycling are well catered for.

So, what are you waiting for? Come along and join in! As the club motto states; Let the good time roll!
