Local clubs among the county awards

Eire Og, who won the 2012 All County Junior Reserve Championship, the division four title and the Junior Championship were rewarded for what had been a staggering year when they picked up the Armagh Club of the Year award.

One of the Pinebank club’s many stars last season, Paul Creaney, carried off the Division Four Player of the Year award which certainly was highlighted by the player’s performance in the Junior Championship final against Clonmore.

Having struggled during the 2010 season the Craigavon side installed successful management duo Mickey Devlin and Oliver Cormican at the start of last seasons’ campaign and the professional approach showed by the coaches paid rich dividends.

Wolfe Tones, in finishing runners-up to Clann Eireann in division two, can look forward to top flight football next season.

One of the Derrymacash side’s best defenders, Niall Lennon, was deservedly rewarded for his consistency during the 2011 season with the Division Two Player of the Year award.

The Division Three Player of the Year went to young St Peter’s man Niall McConville who in the most recent past had been a leading light in Armagh minor sides.

Niall also shone for St Michael’s Grammar School and is currently a member of the Armagh under 21 squad.

The recent awards captured by local players can further enhance the growing confidance currently being enjoyed by north Armagh clubs.

And although Crossmaglen continue to dominate at senior level, the sterling work being carried out by local schools and youth coaches could lead to a brighter future.
