Local drivers in the mix

LOCAL drivers gave a good display in the Ulster Karting Club promoted Ulster Cup series sixth round.

In the125 and 250 Superkarts combined race it was Waringstown’s Richard Dewart that came through from fifth on the grid to win. It wasn’t all plain sailing though in the 160mph capable class with Robin Hamill pressurising hard mid race to lead. That was only momentary though and a lap later Dewart was back in charge with Hamill settling for second.

Looking to the next round in the increasingly popular World Formula class, Portadown's Mark Overend and Dollingstown brothers Francis and Daniel Conlon will all start in the thick of the podium battle overall.

Overend took third last time out to hold second overall with Francis taking an excellent fourth last time out to put him into fourth overall. Although Daniel did not fair out as well in the finals he will start in third overall and is very much in touch with the lead itself which will make for a nail biter finish by all three.

Waringstown's Peter Caldwell could still provide a shock though. A sixth last time out has now moved Peter up to sixth but so tight is the top ten that he too could feasibly make the podium overall.

Racing this Saturday gets underway at 10am with a packed series of three heats. The tough finals will start around 2pm at the Nutts Corner Circuit.
