Local drivers prepare for Irish Kart Grand Prix

THIS Saturday (August 4) is a key date in the Ulster Championship kart racing calendar as the Province’s drivers begin their final race preparations for the 30th Irish Kart Grand Prix at end of the month.

In the Honda Clubman class, Shay Burns from Glengormley will be out for a win at Nutts Corner. Burns has had an improving season and the strong form has now taken him into the class lead. The top three is close but another strong result this Saturday should see Burns stay out in front.

Jack Irvine, from Carrickfergus, is also making strong progress and he will start in fifth overall. With only a few race places worth of points between his points total and third overall, Saturday will also be important for Jack.

In the Prokarts class it will be father-and-son team of Tommy and Thomas Fegan from Newtownabbey who be aiming for a top-five overall finish.

In the larger single cyclinder 4-stroke class for the World Formula machines, Robert Devenney from Carrickfergus will be going all out for success. Devenney came through various classes, including winning the Prokart class, and is now leading the World Formula class.

fellow Carrick man James Irvine starts in the lead in the 125cc Superkarts. James leads the class by four points, so another good result will be crucial to hold his ranking going into the Grand Prix.

In the 250cc Superkarts, Templepatrick’s Jonathan Adams and Larne’s Arie Verhoog will also be in hopeful form of improving their places in the rankings.
