Local drivers turn in impressive Kirkistown performances

Local drivers turned in some impressive performances in last week’s MSA Regional Northern Irish Karting Championship second round at Kirkistown.

In the Mini Max class Anahilt’s Daniel Harper finished the day with a perfect record, winning all four races of the day.

Glenavy’s Jack McGaughey also had a good day, claiming second in three of the races and fourth in the final.

As always in the series, there was close racing throughout the classes with multiple winners in each.

In the Senior Max class, 2013 Champion Douglas Reid won first race of the day ahead of Daniel Conlon and Derek Wilson. In race two the top three remained the same but it was Wilson who took home the first of his two victories ahead of Conlon, once again in second, and Reid in third.

In race three Conlon claimed top spot ahead of Jack McConnell in second and David Irvine in third. Wilson claimed his second win of the day in the final race, beating Conlon, with Dean Gray rounding off the podium.

In the World Formula Paul Prentice and David Lilburn were evenly matched, each claiming two race victories. Peter Crossen claimed three third place finishes and a fourth; Peter Caldwell claimed some good points in the Championship by taking home a second, third and fourth.

In the Cadet class, Shay Burns claimed three victories and a second in the final race of the day. Tom Edgar took home two second places and a third-place finish in the final race of the day. TJ McDonnell, Paul Graffin and Nathan Glenn all claimed podium positions throughout the day with Nathan Glenn also claiming victory in the final race of the day.
