Local karate teacher invited to Dublin contest

A local karate teacher will represent a Lisburn club at the JKA Championships in Dublin this weekend.

Sempi (Assistant teacher) Stephen Bell 2nd Dan, has been asked to represent the Lisburn Shotokan Karate Club in the JKA Championships held in Dublin on April 2.

This is a great opportunity for the local club and Northern Ireland.

Lisburn Shotokan Karate Club is a new club which trains on Monday evenings in The Grove Activity Centre, and have now opened on Thursday evenings and Saturday lunch time in Lisburn LeisurePlex.

The Sensei (teacher) is Sensei Stephen Farrell 3rd Dan and Sempi (Assistant teacher) Stephen Bell 2nd Dan.

The club currently have 25 members.

The club have also joined the main organisation JKA Ireland headed by Sensei Noel Casey 9th Dan, the highest Dan grade held outside the main headquarters in Tokyo.

Joining the organisation has given the club so many more opportunities to compete.

They are currently organising a fun day in Lisburn with a bake sale, a karate course with Sensei Noel Casey coming from Cork.

Six of the ladies from the club will also be competing in the Pretty Muddy on September 6.

The club have competed in two competitions so far, with the juniors and adults all coming back with medals, gold, silver and bronze.
