Local kids are good sports

BALLYMENA Borough Council held its first summer coaching multi-sports fun week at Ballymena Showgrounds last week.

Mayor, Cllr Hubert Nicholl presented all the participants with a Community Sport water bottle and a medal for successfully completing the 5 day event and also presented Kurtis Dunlop as Most Improved Player of the Week and Kora McMillan as Sportsperson of the Week.

The programme is managed by Gary Boyd, Ballymena Community Sports Development Officer and coached by Craig Livingston from Active Communities, Bryan Scroggie and Julie Alexander from Community Sport.

This is the seventh year of the successful summer programmes with over 120 children signing up for the three week coaching sessions including sports such as, basketball, rugby, hockey, football, cricket, tennis, badminton, volleyball and golf.

Ballymena Community Sport would like to thank Cecilia McWhirter from Ballymena Borough Council and Mount Charles Catering who kindly supplied the medals and trophies as well as drinks for the participants all week.
