Local martial arts stars prepare for King's Hall clash

TWO Ballymena martial artists are preparing for an important date next month.

Ryan Boyd and Alan Philpott will be taking to the cage to fight on Cage Contender VII on November 13, at The Kings Hall Complex, Belfast.

"Cage Contender is a big, big promotion; it's on TV in over 40 countries. I was thrilled to be offered a fight on such a big promotion and jumped at the chance straight away," said Philpott.

The lads are getting ready under the watchful eye of local MMA hero Rodney Moore and his assistant coach, ex-UFC star Colin 'Big C' Robinson.

Their IMMA gym is turning out some potential stars right now and no doubt they will be aiming for two out of two for this trip to The Kings Hall

Boyd will face off with West Belfast heavyweight Sean Crowe, who he has beaten in the past. This time round though Crowe has been in the USA training with UFC's Matt Hughes in his Hit Squad training facility.

This will be a tough test for Boyd, who is coming off a recent loss in the UK, and will no doubt be aiming to get back to winning form.

Philpott will take on Belfast hitter James 'The Bagman' Higgins in a mouth watering clash

"This could well be fight of the night in my opinion, Higgins is a hard hitter but young Philpott is one of the rising stars in Irish and UK MMA these two style should make for a proper war," said John Ferguson, of Cage Contender.
