Over 100 people from a variety of exercise capabilities started the programme 10 weeks ago to be able to go from zero to 5K in the space of 10 weeks.

The programme was free to anybody who wanted to improve their fitness and delivered by volunteers, Jog Lisburn Running club Chairman, Gary Moore stated: “The club is overwhelmed at the response from local people, all ages and backgrounds come together to exercise in a friendly environment. Couch to 5K is set at a low to moderate pace so everybody can enjoy the many physical, mental and even social benefits associated with regular exercise.”

Wallace Park was a sea of purple in the trademark Jog Lisburn Running Club colours, the Couch to 5K participants made their way around the park run course and encouraged on by the running club members and park run volunteers, the finalists gave it their all. Everybody completed the course and now have a recorded time for their 5K run and baseline fitness from which to build upon. Maintaining personal connections made in the programme and continuing to exercise is important, the Jog Lisburn Running Club is open for membership from all members of the local community to offer motivation and increased performance and fitness regardless of individual experience.

Chairman Gary Moore commented: “The club committee is delighted at how Jog Lisburn has grown since starting last year but there is so much more we can do for the local area in terms of fitness and exercise. We have been developing partnerships with local businesses and experts that complement the club’s objectives.”

He added: “Access to expert advice and coaching to provide a structured training plan tailored to fit your personal running goals and advice on fuelling for runs and races, as well as injury prevention will help individuals reach their potential, more so than trying to go it alone. The social element to be able to network with people who share similar interests is great to share hints and tips as well as gaining a few new friends along the way. Some friendly encouragement can really help as we train on the hills in Wallace Park, or perhaps a cold and wet evening.”

Jog Lisburn Running Club would like to acknowledge and thank the running volunteers, Adrian Daye and Ross Smith for their time and dedication in providing the tuition in running fitness over the 10 week period.
