Local runners on Roe-d to success

BALLYMENA-based athletes Gregory Walsh and Linda Petticrew recorded a double success for North Belfast Harriers at Saturday's Five Mile Trail Race at Roe Valley Country Park.

Gregory, making his first competitive outing after a six month lay off, claimed victory in the Male Open, with a 24 second advantage, finishing in a time of 27 mins 41 secs.

Linda recorded her first ever race victory, finishing a strong first in the Female 45 category, crossing the line in 40 mins 27 secs.

Also in action was ex-footballer Sean Quinn who produced an excellent performance finishing in 34 mins 24 secs. Close behind was Ronnie Marshall in 35 mins 52 secs.

John Dickie, in his first outing of the season, broke his 5 mile road race personal best, finishing in a much improved 36 mins 11 secs.
