Local runners star in Parkrun

FIT N Running male athletes filled three of the top six places as Ballymena Runners staged the tenth of their superbly well organised Parkrun events over the picturesque grounds of the Ecos Park on Saturday morning.

In addition to the men Paula Wallace finished third in the Ladies crossing the line with a 49sec personal best in 23mins 33sec.

Talented 14 year old Conor McQuillan smashed his own junior male course record which he set a week earlier by 52secs to finish well up among the senior men in 5th place in a time of 19mins 25secs.

A place back in 6th was the fast finishing James Wallace who was making his debut at the distance. On his first outing since the London Marathon James produced a promising 20min 9sec effort.

Club coach Gregory Walsh claimed 1st place in a time of 17mins 36secs.

The returning Mark Hall who like James had taken part in London and was making his 5k debut claimed 26th place in 22min 48secs.

Also in action was Peter Drennan who finished in 18th place crossing the line in 21mins 21secs.

EDWARDS TRACK AND FIELD MEETING

Conor McQuillan was also in action on Thursday night in the 3rd of the Edwards series meetings at the Antrim Forum. Making his debut at 3000meters Conor produced a fine performance to claim a podium finish taking third place in 10mins 48secs.

Also in action was 10 year old Lisburn A.C. athlete Rebecca Wallace, daughter of James & Paula, who also finished among the prizes taking a good 3rd in the 1200 meter race finishing in 4mins 49secs.

CLUB TRAINING

Fit N Running are based at the Michelin Athletic Club in Ballymena. They train on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 615pm. There is also a session on Saturday mornings at 915am. The club cater for the full range of runners from beginners, juniors though to intermediate and advanced athletes.
