Local school kids make a splash

Local Primary School children recently made a splash when the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn recently hosted the 32nd annual ‘Primary Schools Swimming Gala’ for the Lisburn area.

This spectacular event took place on May 8, and consisted of 34 individual gala events, featuring 500 entrants competing across two sessions.

The first session in the morning was for Primary 4 and 5 pupils and the second session in the afternoon was for Primary 6 and 7 pupils.

The Gala was a resounding success with both Club and Non-Club swimmers enjoying themselves.

In the morning session, the Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Erin Howe of Downshire Primary School.

Meanwhile, in the afternoon the Outstanding Achievement went to Matthew O’Boyle from Ballymacward Primary School.

Programmes detailing all the races and the participants were on sale at the event and the full £200 proceeds was presented to the Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett for his mayoral charity, the Mary Peters Trust.
