Local swimmers excel in PTL finals

BALLYMENA Amateur Swimming Club hosted the prestigious PTL Finals recently with 12 swimmers representing Ballymena on the night.

The local club members were Chris Best, Suzannah Brown, Roisin Ferris, Jack Higgins, Peter Meehan, Aoife McCann, Hannah McCormick, Katie Morrow, Claire O'Neill, Oonagh O'Neill, Rachel Reid and Matthew Robinson.

Competition was stiff with the best of the province on show but all the local swimmers performed exceptional with many PBs and a total of 12 medals, (5 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze) awarded to them.

The top two perfomers were Roisin Ferris and Oonagh O'Neill who each obtained three medals.

BASC has thanked the helpers who made this event a very enjoyable occasion for all the swimmers who took part.

Special thanks must go to our own squad of volunteers who once again ensured that the night ran off with no hiccups, and this was a result of considerable organisation and work by a dedicated number of parents and coaches.

This event was a good warm up for the next open gala where many of these young swimmers will be taking part in the Age Group Championships on the weekend of 7-9th May.

The rest of the season looks exciting with the Age Group Championships followed by the Ards Junior Gala, The Bridgestone Gala and the last two Teletot Galas all before the 2010 Club Gala on the 19th June.

Ballymena Swimming Club will be bag packing in Sainsbury's Ballymena on May 29 from 9am to raise much needed funds to ensure that the Ballymena Club can continue to remain competitive with the best clubs throughout the province, all support would be appreciated.
