Locals lead the way in sports awards

The Banbridge District is leading the way in the nominations for the inaugural Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Senior Sports Awards.

Amongst the local poeple nominated are:

Sports Person with a Disability - Niall McVeigh (Badminton), Jill Connery (Golf); Sportswoman of the Year - Kerri McDonald (Hockey), Natalie Kane (Motorcross); Sportsman of the Year - Craig McCreery (Archery), Mark Nesbitt (Archery), Gareth McKee (Cycling), Sean McIntyre (Cycling), Eugene Magee (Hockey), Russell White (Triathlon); Senior Team of the Year - Dunbarton Bowling Club – Triples Team, All Saints Tullylish – Quartet Team, Banbridge Hockey Club – Men’s 1st XI, Ballela Senior Hurling Team; Senior Coach of the Year - Mark Tumilty (Hockey); Female Coach of the Year - Nicola McKiverigan (Cycling); Service to Sport - Frank Mulligan (Ballyvally Archery Club); Kevin Broderick (Banbridge & Rathfriland Karate Club); Ian Boyce (Banbridge Golf Club); Volunteer - Noel McSherry (Banbridge Golf Club), Kyle Morgan (Banbridge & Rathfriland Karate Club) and Club Innovation - Banbridge Cycling Club, Annaclone GAC.

Leading retail outlet Rushmere Shopping Centre will be the main sponsor for the celebration of local sporting achievement which will take place on Friday 4 March in the Seagoe Hotel, Portadown.

Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Darryn Causby said: “I am delighted to welcome Rushmere on board as headline sponsor for our first Senior Sports Awards.

“We have received a large number of nominations, all of which are of a very high standard, which is without doubt a reflection of the excellent sporting calibre within the Borough. I would like to thank all those that took time to nominate and congratulate those shortlisted. I am very much looking forward to what promises to be a great night.”
