Locals performing well at Aghadowey

DRIVERS from the Ballymena area have been impressing in meetings at Aghadowey stock car stadium since the track re-opened in April.

At the most recent meeting, on May 28, Randalstown’s Campbell Percy had three podium finishes in the 2L Sierra class but just couldn’t manage any better than a runner-up in the second heat and third place finishes in the first heat and final.

One Ballymena driver who did take the chequered flag was Galgorm’s Christopher Moore, who won the opening heat of the Junior Stocks.

Spare a thought, though, for Cullybackey’s Curtis Greer, who had to settle for runners-up position in both heats and the final in the same class.

There was more local success in the 1600 Lightning Rods class, where Ballymena’s Jerome Doherty won the final, after finishing second in the second heat, just ahead of another local driver, Mark Dewar.

Earlier, in the same class, Portglenone’s Jason Smyth won the opening heat.

The next meeting at Aghadowey is this Friday, June 11, at 7.15pm.

Further ahead, A Speed Weekend is planned for Friday 25 June and Saturday 26 June with Aghadowey Championship for all classes and a Destruction Derby to top it all off on the Saturday afternoon. Racing starts on Friday night at 7.15pm as usual and on Saturday at 1pm.
