Locals ready for Ulster Cup

THIS Sunday sees the second round of kart racings Ulster Cup take place at Nutts Corner Circuit and judging on the recent opener to the series and the Ulster Championships at Easter this Sundays meeting should be very close in all classes.

The Ulster Karting Club promoted series is all about consistency with points from heats also counting and locals will be all out to do well.

In the Comer Cadet class Kilrea’s Conor Shaw, will all be in hopeful form. Conor took a superb second in the recent Ulster Championships with a number of wins to his credit in the process.

Ballymoney drivers Chris and Philip Doherty will also be hoping for a good result in the Honda Cadet class. Both drivers have made a strong start to the Ulster Cup and will no doubt be keen to build on that.

The circuit has been a hot bed of activity of recent with the two rounds of the Fuch Lubricants British Open Rallycross championship last weekend.

Some karting drivers will also be using the Ulster Cup round as their preparations for the British Championship round that will visit the circuit on May 29 and 30.

In the 125 Rotax Max class, Dungiven’s Martin McLaughlin will be very keen to do well. As one of the top drivers in the class, McLaughlin is regularly on the podium in the Ulster Cup series and he will no doubt be keen to be up there again on Sunday.

Coleraine’s Jason Taylor has also had a decent start to the season and if he can build on that then top tens should be possible on Sunday. Racing gets underway at 10am.
