London’s calling for Shenna ahead of School Games

NEW-BRIDGE Integrated College pupil Shenna McKiverigan is heading off to the home of this year’s London Olympics compete in the Sainsbury’s UK School Games this weekend.

The Sainsbury 2012 Uk School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes of school age and and Shenna, a member of Banbridge Cycling Club, will be getting on her bike represent the Ulster schools.

The cycling teams for the Sainsbury’s 2012 School Games have been selected following regional and national talent development programmes in each of the home nations.

The games are being held in the Olympic Park from May 6-9 to build on the excitement of inspiration of the 2012 Games.

The Sainsbury 2012 School Games seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting which not only provides elite young sports people with the opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest level. The competition aims to mirror the principles of an Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Around 1,600 of the nation’s finest young sports stars will compete and up to 35,000 spectators will cheer on the athletes. This is the last event to be held on the Oympic Park before the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games on 27th July.

Monday May 7 will be day one of a three-day competion. The first two days will take place in Redbridge Olympic Cycling Centre competing in the road events, while day three will be in the Olympic Veledrome.

New-Bridge principal, Mr Gerry Jones, and staff of the College are very proud of Shenna’s success and wish her all the best.
