However these last two games are against third placed Marian and second placed Loughanreagh so they cannot afford any slip ups. Dunluce faced St. Colman’s this week and surprisingly won all four games. The pundits had been forecasting that the visitors might sneak at least one game. Brothers Barry and Rodney Kane, both Dunluce, played Kenny Carson and John Simpson (St. Colman’s) respectively and the Dunluce pair each won by two shots. Alastair Kilpatrick (Dunluce) took on Martin McAleese (St. Colman’s) and won 12 shots to nine. In a very close game Uel McKeeman (Dunluce) beat David Walker (St. Colman’s) by one shot.

Loughanreagh were away to Second Kilrea and came away with six points. Edwin Irwin put Loughanreagh on the winning path, beating Brian McGrath (2nd. Kilrea), by 10 shots. Ivan Smyth pulled a game back for Second Kilrea with a one shot win against Ian Ross (Loughanreagh). Alastair Steele put Loughanreagh in the driving seat once again by beating Margaret Johnston 12 shots to eight and in the final game Alan Irwin made sure of a Loughanreagh win with a resounding victory over Nicky McCaw (2nd. Kilrea).

The Marian travelled the short distance down to Moneydig and came away with all seven points. This defeat makes Moneydigs’ prospects of staying in Division 1 very bleak. Trevor Workman (Moneydig) just lost out to Terrence McGarry by one shot. Joe Martin made it two nil for the Marian with an 11 shots to five win against John Wallace (Moneydig). James Martin (Marian) beat Alan McAleese (Moneydig) 14 shots to eight and Willie Knight (Moneydig) fell to Brian McAlary (Marian), losing by three shots.

St. Mary’s were at home to Ballinrees but they did not fare well. Aidan Cassley (St. Mary’s) lost by one shot against Uel Gordon (Ballinrees). Jordan Mullan (St. Mary’s) levelled the match with a nine shots to eight victory over Victor Millen (Ballinrees). William Calvin put the visitors in front when he beat John Campbell (St. Marys) nine shots to eight. In the final game Jonathan Calvin (Ballinrees) beat Declan McCann (St. Mary’s) 18 shots to four to give Ballinrees the overall score.

Division 2 is very tight also with Finvoy Presbyterian on top by just two points from Dunloy Presbyterian. The last game is between these two teams so positions could yet change. Dunloy Presbyterian was at home to Garvagh and District and won three out of the four games. Thomas Paul got the home team going with a 10 shots to eight win against Elizabeth McCafferty (Garvagh). David Workman (Garvagh) then beat Mark Shaw to level the match. In the second half Stephen Dunlop (Dunloy) beat Geoffrey Boyce (Garvagh) 14 shots to four and Joe Campbell (Dunloy) won against Ken McLenaghan.

Finvoy Presbyterian picked up all seven points on offer with a big win against poor travellers, Castlerock. Young Mark Jones (Finvoy), standing in for Gary McCloy beat Victor Callaghan (Castlerock) by three shots. Donna McCloy made it 2-0 for Finvoy with an 11 shots to three victory against Jackie Hutchinson (Castlerock). Both Joe Moore and Chris Jones (Finvoy) had big wins against Ronnie Steele and Brian Wilson (Castlerock) respectively.

New Row lost their second game in a row when they succumbed to First Coleraine. Clifford McLernon put First Coleraine in the lead with a win over Jonathan Elder (New Row). Sammy McArthur pulled a game back for the visitors with a 12 shots to nine win against Jim Campbell (1st. Coleraine). Bryan Shaw put the home team into the lead by beating Mark Callaghan (New Row) 14 shots to five. John Graham gave New Row their second point with a win against a late Colin Hutchinson (1st. Coleraine).

Drumreagh are making a late charge with another six pointer win. In the first game Carson Boyd (Drumreagh) beat Billy Laverty (Killowen) and Raymond Clyde (Drumreagh) made it 2-0 with a 10 shots to two win against Robert McClements (Killowen). Martin Marks (Drumreagh) then won 12 shots to seven against Sadie Davis (Killowen). Killowen’s only win came from David Morrison who beat Alastair Walker (Drumreagh) six shots to five.

St. Colman’s defeated the Marian by one shot in the semi-final of the Morrison Trophy. They now await the winners of Dunluce versus Second Kilrea.

E & B TAYLOR CHARITY CUP

The E & B Taylor Charity Cup has now reach ed the semi-final stage. In the top half of the draw,

Benvarden are at home to Ballinrees whilst the second semi-final sees Loughanreagh against St.

Mary’s. The final is set for March 20th in First Coleraine so these two games have to be played before that date.
