In the Year 11 Girls’ tournament, the hosts had a very successful day, recording a clean sweep of victories over their neighbouring teams. Loreto defeated Coleraine College 6-2, North Coast Integrated College 10-6 and St Joseph’s College 8-4.

The students from all four schools had been practising during their PE lessons with coach Gary Fowler, who is Coleraine Borough Council’s ‘Active Community Coach’. This blitz was the ‘finale’ of a term of coaching and practice.

On the day, a boys’ team (also comprising Year 11 students) was also put together, which competed against a mixed team from Coleraine College after only one session of training.

Mrs Maureen McCullough, Head of Physical Education at Loreto College, paid tribute to all the Year 11 students who took part in the Handball Blitz for their enthusiasm and energy, as well as for their commitment and spirit in representing the school with such distinction in a sport which was relatively new to them in recent times.
