Lost to the Golden Goal in cup final

SUNNYSIDE under 13s lost 1-0 after extra time to Lisburn Youth in the Lisburn League Cup final on Saturday.

The Lurgan side started the brighter and almost took the lead when a Ruairi McDonald cross found Dylan Hatton but his shot went just wide.

Both midfields were cancelling each other out while the Sunnyside defence of Magee, Hatton, McConville and O’Neill were excellent.

Tiarnan McCann almost got a goal when he beat the keeper to the ball but the keeper recovered to get a touch on the ball to keep it out.

The second half was also a tough battle but after a time Sunnyside had Lisburn on the rack.

Tiarnan McCann’s lob hit the crossbar and then a goal looked certain but the impressive Shane McCaughey also hit the bar.

Lisburn were wobbling but after Josh Durnin cut in from the right and hit the post they managed to hold on to full time.

The dreaded Golden Goal came into play now and it was Lisburn who got it with a superb free kick from 35 yards.

It was a great game between two sides who played in a sporting manner.

Man of the match for Sunnyside was Tiarnan McCann.

The Lurgan side still have a lot to play for with their final two games this week as they try to win the league title.
