Lough Foyle Yacht Club a hive of activity

THE summer might have come to an end but there's still plenty of activity at Lough Foyle Yacht Club.

Last weekend a record seven boats from the local club competed at Newtonards in the National Championship of Ireland Regatta. Lough Foyle's best sailors were Keith Louden and Dessie Hughes, who finnished ninth out of an entry of 45 boats which included National Champions, and an Olympic Sailor. Quite an achievement. particularly in most demanding conditions.

Lough Foyle Yacht Club also recently held its annual open 'Culmore Regatta' which saw an excellent turnout of local and visiting boats. There was rowing as well as sailing competitions in dinghys and the traditional fishing boat, the ''Foyle Punt'' which are only made and sailed by local people in the Foyle.

The club’s next competition is the Foyle Festival Cup, to be held at Culmore on Saturday, September 18 at 2pm. Everyone is welcome and we are particularly keen to recruit new members from the wider sailing community and beyond. For further information check out the club website at www.lfyc.co.uk.
