Loughanreagh on the brink

LOUGHANREAGH are on the brink of securing the North West Division One title following their three shot win over Dunluce last week.

The Windyhall outfit, who have two games remaining against Marian and Moneydig, picked up another six points to maintain their 11 point lead over nearest challengers Ballinrees at the top of the league.

Uel McKeeman picked up the visitors solitary point as he beat Alan Irwin by seven shots, before Alastair Steele levelled things up as he beat Harry Elliott by the same margin.

The two games in the second half were tighter affairs with the home side edging out their opponents. First Ian Ross overcame Alastair McIntyre by two and then Edwin Irwin squeezed past Alastair Kilpatrick by a single shot.

Reigning champions Ballinrees kept the pressure on Loughanreagh with a 17-shot win away to basement club Montra.

Victor Millen got the ball rolling with a nine shot win over Russell Millar, before Jonathan Calvin added another two shots to their total as he beat Peter Whitaker.

After the break Kenny McNeill all but wrapped up the win with an eight shot victory over Paul Donnelly, but Jimmy O'Neill grabbed a point back for the home side as he beat Willie Calvin by two shots.

Boveedy consolidated their fourth place with a four shot win over fifth paced Second Kilrea.

But the home side were made to work all the way to pick up the six points. Alan Catherwood squeezed past Margaret Johnston by one shot before Stephen White added another six to their total with victory over Nicky McCaw.

In the second half Alan Paul cut their lead by five as he beat Nigel Gamble, but Ronnie Catherwood made sure of the win for Boveedy as he beat Ivan Smyth by two shots.

Moneydig closed the gap on Second Kilrea as they picked up 6.5 points following their six shot win away to Marian.

Brian McFetridge held on to beat Jim McGarry by one shot and Willie Knight saw off Terrance McGarry by two to give Moneydig the lead at the break.

Trevor Workman added another three to the visitors total with victory over Brian McAlary before Torrence McFetridge and John Rainey shared the spoils.
