Lurgan add another win to fine start

Lurgan B extended the side’s unbeaten start to the season with success over Lagan Valley by 93-67 and a 6.5-point haul.

This victory has moved the Lurgan side to top spot in NIBA Division Five thanks to a 2.5-point advantage over Newry.

Lurgan, battling from a shot behind after five ends, managed to maintain the advantage across the rest of the match towards a 26-shot success.

Will McCullough - as skip on rink one - with Melvyn Hamilton, Bobby Livingstone and Bobby Jones raced clear by 13-1 after eight ends.

A dip proved temporary as Lurgan registered a convincing 26-11 triumph.

On rink two, Eamonn Quinn, skip Brian Brown, Neil Sloan and Vincent Devlin were level at five shots apiece after five ends.

However, a disappointing run led to a six-shot deficit by the midway stage of play.

Lurgan stepped up the tempo to close the gap to 21-18 by 18 ends and two superb wins across the final three ends left the sides all-square on 21 apiece.

Sam Neill - on rink three with Charlie Maguire, Derek Henderson and Roy Potts - moved 11-9 up with a five-shot win at the 10th end.

Lagan Valley managed to level at 13-13 by 14 ends but a superb finale, that included high-scoring wins such as a six-shot haul on the 19th, left Lurgan clear by 27-17.

Rink four featured a cautious start by Gerry Stewart, skip Rodney McCarthy, Albert Houston and Michael Steen - with a five-shot win on end nine one highlight.

It was 12-7 in Lurgan’s favour at the halfway point and 17-9 by 17 ends.

Lagan Valley enjoyed a five-shot surge on the 19th but Lurgan worked hard to protect the lead for a 19-18 success.
