Lurgan march on in Cup

The home team were impressive on all fronts and tries came from both the pack - Marty Follis and Michael Campbell - and from the backs - Ben McIlwaine, Jack Wilson and out half Stephen Nolan who scored two tries, two conversions and a penalty.

Meanwhile Lurgan Seconds travelled to Randalstown on Saturday.

The 14-men of Lurgan, many of whom were playing out of position, competed admirably against their well-drilled opponents, but they learnt the hard way that pressure needs to be converted into points to stand any chance at this level.

Returning to action for the first time this season were Neil McIlwaine and Graeme Cousins and their experience mixed with the youthful exuberance of their fellow forwards meant Lurgan competed well at the breakdown.

It was in the back division that Randalstown made the superiority count and they exploited numerous overlaps to run in several unanswered tries before Lurgan’s man of the match Jason Kane got the away side on the scoreboard with a late try that was converted by Pete Williams, who impressed as a stand-in fly half. The final score was 35-7.

On Saturday Lurgan Firsts are at home again when they take on Donegal Town while the Seconds are away to Carrick Thirds.
