Lurgan U13s move into last four

Lurgan U13s moved into the semi finals of the Ulster Under 13 Youth Plate competition with a pulsating 32-31 win over Omagh.

The first half started poorly for the Tigers when with only three minutes gone, slack tackling allowed Omagh’s speedy number 8 to run in from the half way line for the opening score which was duly converted.

The rest of the first half saw great movement, rucking and spatial awareness from the Tigers forwards and backs and this was rewarding with tries from Captain Tom Lavery (3), Josh Richardson (1) and Zac Davidson (1) with one conversion from Daniel Hannon.

The first half ended with the Tigers leading 27-7 and the away team out on the feet.

Second half started well for the Tigers with Ben Davidson rounding off a superb backline move to put the home team 32-7 ahead.

Thereafter a combination of poor tackling, some players thinking the match was over and good play from Omagh saw the away team score four unanswered tries and three further conversions to leave the final score line 32-31 and the home team hanging on at the end of match.

The squad now advance to the semi finals this Saturday to play away at either Larne or Ballymena .

Thanks also go to all of the parents and supporters who turned up in large numbers and once again gave the squad fantastic vocal encouragement. It continues to mean a lot to the players and coaches.
